More heavy hitters join Microsoft’s The Initiative

Phil Spencer announced Microsoft’s new Santa Monica-based studio, The Initiative headed by Darrell Gallagher, at this year’s E3 and have already obtained some noteworthy team members since then. With the likes of Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory and Compulsion Games already under their umbrella, they must be trying something new and exciting for the future of Xbox with the new recruits added t the mix.

Gallagher who has worked with industry giants such as Activision, Crystal Dynamics, Sony, Square Enix, and THQ, announced a list of new recruits to The Initiative this past Saturday via a short write up on Remote Play.

Here is a list of individuals added to The Initiative’s growing list of industry specialists thus far:

  • Blake Fischer: senior director of portfolio and planning at Microsoft.
  • Brian Westergaard: God of War’s senior managing producer, lead and senior producer for Rise of the Tomb Raider.
  • Christian Cantamessa: Red Dead Redemption and Shadow of Mordor lead writer and designer.
  • Daniel Neuburger: Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider co-director.

Two recruiters were also hired: Annie Lohr, formerly of Respawn, Riot Games, and Microsoft Studios; and Lindsey McQueeney who was previously lead recruiter for Crystal Dynamics and Microsoft. Looking at the list of new additions to the team you can deduce that their focus will be on single-player experiences for the Xbox One and with the calibre they have obtained we can hope to see some great things in the works for the Microsoft console and PC players.

I Game, I Design, I wish I could Game Design.
