Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is a bit of a sad tale. It’s a very underrated game that was sadly not played by a lot of people and it is because of this reason that 38 Studios went under.
Last week, THQ Nordic announced that they have acquired the rights to the Kingdoms of Amalur IP and although they didn’t say what they intend to do with it, we can only assume they plan to make sequels to the 2012 epic fantasy RPG. Interestingly enough, Electronic Arts still owns the publishing rights for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, so if THQ Nordic had any intention of re-releasing it as a remaster, it would require the blessing from EA according to Eurogamer.
It seems like 38 Studios essentially paid for the entire game independently, with EA only being the publisher and not owning any of the IP, so for THQ to go ahead and make a sequel won’t be a problem. What they intend to do with the franchise is at this stage still unknown, but for those of us who played and loved Kingdoms of Amalur will certainly keep an eye on developments.
