I love Gwent but I also, well, I am kind of over playing card games against people online. From waiting queues for matchmaking, facing netdeck after netdeck, players taking so long to play their turn that you could start watching a TV show or playing another game in the time it takes and more just really put me off the whole experience. If you have similar issues, then it isn’t much more of a wait for Thronebreaker, a single-player standalone RPG is on its way on October 23 and you fight by playing Gwent or at least a very Gwent-like game.
Thronebreaker is an RPG that follows Meve, a warrior queen from the north. “Facing an imminent Nilfgaardian invasion, Meve is forced to once again enter the warpath, and set out on a dark journey of destruction and revenge.” If you enjoyed Witcher 3’s Bloody Baron questline, the writer that made that is working on Thronebreaker. The game will be available on GOG, but for now, no price has been stated.
Oh and if you don’t mind playing Gwent against actual humans that appear to take forever to take every damn turn, the Gwent team has been hard at work. Here is a dev diary that discusses what is being revamped and worked on.
