Collecting both old and new game consoles and PCs is nothing new. There are plenty of collectors around the world, including yours truly. It’s just that some people take it to the next level. A few years back there was a person who had the world record for the biggest game collection who eventually sold everything off and made himself a nice little fortune. Now there is a new guy in Australia who recently posted a video of his game collection and, boy, does it leave me with sour grapes and jealousy.
He collects for both modern and old consoles as well as PCs, magazines, vinyl soundtracks and everything in-between. It is, however, his arcade collection that’ll have old school gamers foaming at the mouth. He has collected some classics over the years, since the age of 12 when he told his mother he wants to own all video games ever made (32 years in total now), and I’ve quite honestly never seen anything quite like it. It’s not just that he has a collection, but he’s taken the time to really theme the various rooms (five in total) filled with games and other merchandise. Joel Hopkins has an immense library of games and it’s impressive to see that it’s not some guy from the US, as it generally turns out to be. In 2015 he already had 18,000 titles, so who knows what it’s at now?
He doesn’t have all the PS4 and Xbox One titles yet, as he likes completing a game before moving on to the next. Something tells us he’ll have to drop that rule if he wants to collect everything that’s there, as there is just too much to play these days.
If you’re in your mid to late 30s, 40s or 50s – you’re about to become immensely jealous. I have no idea what it’s worth, but I’m sure it’ll fetch a small fortune.
