The Licker in Resident Evil 2 remake is tougher than it ever was

This video actually went live a few days ago, but there has been so much news over the last few days that we just never got to writing about it. Today (at this point) is somewhat of a slow news day and I thought it would be the perfect time to dive into a game I simply cannot wait for. To say that I’m excited about this damn remake is a complete understatement. Therefore, expect me to talk about anything and everything Resi 2, until launch. Sorry.

Anyway, where were we? The Licker was the big introduction in Resident Evil 2, back in 1998. The way poor Claire and Leon stumbled into it was a moment of legend. The blood dripping from the ceiling and either of the two being faced with the Licker for the first time was a haunting moment in gaming. What I can tell you is that it’s completely changed up in Resident Evil 2 remake. They did exactly what the original crew did with the first Resi remake, where the dogs are absent from the crashing window scene that you expect. I’m not going to say much more than that, but my time with the game sent my hype right through the roof. Capcom released the first footage of Claire battling it out with Lickers and, well, they’re looking seriously tough. Tougher than they were in the original game and, as you know, ammo is always in short supply in a Resi game. Around them there are mutilated zombie dogs, which tells you just how hardcore these creatures have become.

Something that is new is that they can only sense you via sound. So, if you move quietly you can point your flashlight right into its face and it wouldn’t know any better. The footage below is very tense and has Claire ultimately meeting a grisly fate. It’s looking very, very good.

Resident Evil 2 launches on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on 25 January 2019.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
