Rumour: The Legend of Zelda TV series may finally be in the works

Nintendo is definitely branching out these days. Not only have they moved past the disaster that was the 1993 Super Mario Bros. movie, but they are setting up licensing partnerships all over the place with theme parks, movies and series popping up left, right and centre. The most relevant example of these is a rumoured Netflix series.

According to The Wrap (via Nintendo News), Adi Shankar who serves as Executive Producer for the Castlevania series on Netflix, has hinted that soon The Legend of Zelda may be getting similar treatment. Yesterday, Shankar posted this interesting comment:

“I can confirm that I am working with an iconic Japanese gaming company to adapt one of their iconic video game series into a series.”

Of course, neither Nintendo or Zelda are mentioned specifically, however, apparently The Wrap has “learned exclusively” that this is the title in question. This rumour has popped up several times over the last few years so take this news with a pinch of salt, however, the series does seem to lend itself to TV and with Adi Shankar now tied to it, at least there does seem to be some substance to the news this time. Apparently the announcement will officially be made on 16 November – so we have just over two weeks to speculate.

Let your imagination run wild.
