Fallout 76 just makes me really sad. I had such high hopes for the game considering my love for the franchise and even if I thought an online-only approach was going to have some growing pains, I didn’t anticipate what an absolute disaster the game ultimately ended up being. Reviews scores are absolutely dreadful, including our own, and it’s just been a non-stop train of pain since the game’s launch. The general gaming public is also not very happy with the game’s performance and this has been personified by the game’s viewership numbers on Twitch.
According to GitHyp, Fallout 76 reached 106k viewers across all streams, which may sound impressive, but Fallout 4 reached 243k viewers during its launch, a drop of 56%. After the launch, however, things got way worse. The numbers dropped another 55% since that time and the game is only number 31 on Twitch’s list of most watched games this year, a terrible performance since it’s beaten out by a lot more relatively small name games.
I think we can quite confidently say that Fallout 76 has been a failure. Both in terms of gameplay and its impact on the gaming world. The game is even being sold off for a pittance compared to the launch price which is massively surprising since it released a week ago. One thing’s for sure, Bethesda has a lot of work to do if they want to mend this gigantic wound they’ve created.
