This is slowly proving to be a franchise that will never die, and now it’s setting its eyes on a Hollywood debut. The Microsoft and Universal Gears of War movie was announced back in 2016 and we haven’t heard much on it since, but today it was confirmed that the project is still in the works.
In a tweet by Rod ‘GearsViking’ Fergusson, he shared the news as reported by The Wrap that they have a writer for the film. F. Scott Frazier, new blood to the film writing industry known for his participation in bringing the skateboarding action hero bad-ass Xander Cage back to the big screen in 2017’s XXX: Return of Xander Cage. Last year we got wind that Avatar 2 screen writer, Shane Salerno, joined the team but we’re not sure if Frazier will take over where he left off or whether Salerno is still part of the project along with notable names like Dylan Clark, Scott Stuber, and the GearsViking himself.
Y'all said you wanted Gears movie news, right? https://t.co/8lfv9GwF3b

Seeing as the script is still under development, the eventual movie production is still a fair bit away from realisation and we can probably expect them to start shooting mid or end 2019. This rules out the idea of Gears 5 being launched alongside a movie based on the franchise which could potentially have marketed it so well. At least we have Gears 5, Gears POP! and Gears Tactics to look forward to next year.
