The Switch has become a haven for ports and remasters for a multitude of reasons. The first is obviously for the money and expanding the platforms that the games appear on, but it’s also because people like to have these previous experiences on a portable console. The ports aren’t ending anytime soon and the Nintendo eShop is starting to get mighty crowded, but honestly, the more games the better. It might be slightly annoying seeing all the articles about X game coming to the Switch, but it’s started to become a huge advantage for the handheld.
There may also be ports of games we didn’t really expect. Like Assassin’s Creed, for example. Nintendo has the franchise on the system already but in the form of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey being streamable in Japan. However, it seems they might be dipping into the back catalogue as well. Observed by Nintendo Everything, German retailer MediaMarkt had a listing that has since been removed for something called the Assassin’s Creed Compilation for the Switch.
It’s unclear which Assassin’s Creed games would be in this potential compilation, but the safe money is on some older Assassin’s Creed games such as the very first game and perhaps some in the Ezio timeline. This would be a good opportunity for Ubisoft to further strengthen its recent relationship with Nintendo and it would be quite a feat to get these old games to run on the console. It’s definitely possible since DOOM, Wolfenstein II and Dark Souls have managed to work and those old games aren’t necessarily the most intensive, graphically. We’ll see if this rumour ends up to be true, but our cloaked heroes might be coming to a Switch near you.
