For you young whippersnappers, Infinity Blade was one of the OG mobile hits that rocked the mobile scene to its foundations when it first released. A relatively deep experience distilled into an easily wieldable mobile game with excellent visuals and production values. It’s been one of those games that have entered legend since its influence has spread far and wide, but unfortunately not far enough since the mobile space kind of went the opposite direction. However, the whole legacy of Infinity Blade is now completely gone.
Epic made the announcement that they’re removing all of the Infinity Blade games from the App Store. The reasons for this are as follows:
At Epic we strive to put players first and to provide a supported, full-fledged experience in every game we publish. With the development of Spyjinx and other projects, it has become increasingly difficult for our team to support the Infinity Blade series at a level that meets our standards.
They also teased the future of the franchise a little bit by saying, “As we bid farewell, be sure to keep your eyes peeled! You may find Infinity Bladepopping up in places you wouldn’t expect.” This means that the franchise isn’t completely over yet and we might see it pop up again somewhere in another form. It probably won’t be as its mobile form and it might just be a bunch of themed items in Fortnite, we don’t know. It would be great if the franchise was revived as a fully-fledged AAA experience, but that might also be a stretch since Epic doesn’t seem to be focusing on other games at the moment.
In the end, it’s sad to see this classic franchise disappear without much warning. It has given us some interesting times on the toilet, for sure.
