FGV winner going to smash – and our weekly wrap up!

Oh boy, it’s one of the last Vrydags of the year! We’re not done yet as we have those two big prizes that still need winners next week, but once that happens, we can close the book on 2018 for good. And what a year it has been. I’ll save my recollections and sentiments for next week, but I’m so glad that 2018 was such a landmark year for gaming yet again.

Weekly wrap up!

This week’s wrap up obviously focuses on our own game awards. I’m not going to link every single one of them because there are just so many. 27 to be exact. You can find all of them by heading here and make sure to jump into the comments to tell us how wrong/right we were with our choices. Arguably the most important award is our Game of the Year and because I want to get more clicks, I’m not going to tell you who won. You just have to go over here to find out.

We were still pumping out our regular content throughout this award madness and one of the most popular articles this week was Dawid’s PlayStation Classic review where he gave the little unit a 4/10. Rightfully so considering how Sony completely missed the point of the classic console and gave us a small handful of games without the big hitters of the console, weird PAL versions of games that tanked the framerate and just being a general disappointment. It was baffling how Sony let this happen let alone put it through the gates, but we can’t understand everything.

Also, I did a review of a little game called Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom which might have slipped through the cracks amongst the award mayhem. Do give it a look because I think this might be one of those hidden gems.

Comment of the week!

We got so many comments this week, mostly from you sneaky devils commenting on our award choices, as is often tradition. However, we wanted to highlight one comment on the “best game no-one played” award from our old friend Dave.

It’s completely true what Dave is saying here, there’s just so many games that released that it’s almost exhausting to keep up with everything. I thought I played a ton of games this year, but when we were doing the awards it dawned on me that I merely played a fraction. But, as Dave said, it was a damn good year for all of us and I think that we can unanimously agree on, regardless of which games won which awards.

The winner!

And now, our winner for this week. The person who is walking away with one of the most anticipated Nintendo games out right now. Yes, it’s Nintendogs Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There were many contestants, but only one managed to smack everyone off the stage. That is none other than:

Dewald Badenhorst

Congratulations to Dewald for winning this wonderful prize! We’ll be in contact with you soon to get your prize to you. The first character he’ll be playing as (as the question asked in the form) will be Pac-Man, so get on that.

Thanks to Nintendo South Africa for sponsoring this week’s prize!

What’s happening this weekend?

If you’re ever wondering what the SA Gamer crew does on weekends, don’t wonder anymore! Here’s a little breakdown of how we’ll be spending our weekends:

Dawid: I feel like giving my DS some love again this weekend – you know, that handheld console that has a battery life of 20 hours? Those were the days. I’ll be playing Yoshi’s Island DS, not to be mistaken for Yoshi’s New Island that I recently started playing on the 3DS. There are many Yoshi’s and many Islands, apparently. [You can never have too many islands. Just ask Elon Musk. You might have too many Yoshi’s though.]

Ash: I’m going to give Battlefield V a run this weekend and catch some robo-fishies and mine some gems in Warframe’s Fortuna in an attempt to gain enough standing to build my own little MOA pet. I will call it Dogge. He will be a good Dogge. [Is it animal abuse if the dog is made of metal?]

Garth: I am currently in Sweden at the moment and this is totally me writing this because I wasn’t busy doing cool stuff in Sweden and could provide Marko, sweet and kind Marko, with this account of what I’m doing during my weekend. [Is it just me or does Garth sound more handsome this week?]

Charlie: This weekend I’ll be getting the house ready for Christmas. Finish the Spring cleaning, get the Christmas tree up, you know, the usual thing. Other than that, I’m not really sure what I’ll be playing, but Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a pretty big bet. Maybe start something on that backlog of mine, who knows! [I’m quite frankly jealous of Charlie’s consistent home life. I wish I was able to clean my room.]

Tim: I’m at a friend’s wedding this weekend so not much time for gaming, but will definitely be hopping back to Celeste to attempt some more of the B-Sides and perhaps will splurge a little and buy Gris which is out this weekend and looks like it’s just my kind of thing. [The more weekend tales we get, the more we see that Tim is the socialite of the group. And Charlie is the obsessive cleaner.]

Marko: I will be playing Beat Saber this weekend for review. We got it late, but at least we got it. I played quite a bit of it yesterday already and my legs and arms are really hating me today. Feels like I went through a whole gym session. Who said that gaming makes you fat and lazy?

And that’s your lot for this Vrydag. Funny story, this one was actually unplanned, we didn’t expect to have a game this week. So you got a nice bonus Free Games Vrydag post! I can’t even elude to what we have next week because it’s right there on the sidebar (or here) so make sure you go enter those wonderful competitions!

I am way too tall, played way too many games and I love to write about what we love about games. In the end, I'm just being #Thabolicious
