From the creators of Steins;Gate 0, and Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc comes a story about eight survivors and their fight to stay alive. Or at least, that’s what I think it’s about. The synopsis is rather vague about what’s actually going on here, but I guess that creates mystery and intrigue. Looks like it’s working! The new trailer for Zanki Zero: Last Beginning at least fills you in on the need-to-knows.
The educational video seems heavily influenced by Fallout in a way, perhaps because Zanki Zero will, too, showcase life after humanity’s fall. Along with the concept reveal of the game, the video also shows us who will be the voice cast for the English version of the game. The talent brought onto this project range from the voice of 9s in Nier: Automata (Kyle McCarley) to the voice of Seong Mi-na from Soul Caliber VI (Erica Mendez), and everything in between!
The game will see you exploring the world around you as it drifts by in the sea of the world through the point of view of one of the eight protagonists. You’ll have to fight for survival, find food and search for the meaning of life and death as you move through ruins, dungeons and abandoned islands. As one does in a post-apocalyptic survival JRPG.
Each character apparently has a life cycle of 13 days (yeesh), and each protagonist’s stats, abilities and capabilities change from young to old age. But depending on how you die, you could see yourself scoring some upgrades for your next life-cycle. Kind of like Binding of Isaac, I guess. The rooms just take on different forms(?).
Whichever way you slice it, Zanki Zero sounds like an intriguing little game. I hope Spike Chunsoft can pull it off, but looking at their previous endeavors I think it’ll be OK. So far, Zanki Zero: Last Beginning is set to release on the 19th of March 2019 on PS4 and PC, both physically and digitally. If you’re interested in getting your hands on the official soundtrack, all you have to do is pre-order it on your preferred platform!
