FGV winners are getting festive – and our yearly wrap up!

Welcome one and all to the final post of the year! There’s still a few days left, but we’re going to be taking it easy and kicking back for the rest of the holiday season and come back fresh in 2019. 2018 was quite a rumble with amazing games, interesting industry happenings and even a few tears. It’s so nice to see gaming on a roll with amazing titles and revelations being made year after year. I don’t know about you, but I’m a huge fan of where the industry is right now, even with the blunders that we often need to look past. It was an honour to be out there reporting on everything that went down and even during the late nights, the long reviews (thanks Red Dead Redemption 2) and the slow news days, we enjoyed every second of it. We’re so happy you guys were along for the ride.

Weekly wrap up!

We didn’t have a full week of content this week because, at this time of the year, everything is just completely dead. Even the few news pieces we did do were incredibly hard to find, but we got some cool stories regardless. For example, we learned that the next-gen Xbox is called the Anaconda and all the obvious posterior jokes were made. We also learned that the Switch is the fastest-selling current-gen console which is pretty crazy considering the competition it was up against.

I also did our final review of the year and it was a good one with Beat Saber getting a cool 9.5 from me. The game is just that good and lightsaber box-cutting is basically the dream.

Comment of the week!

We didn’t get many comments this week either because I have a sneaking suspicion you guys are already on holiday. But some of you lost souls still gave us some entertainment and our comment of the week comes from good old Yahtzee on the Anaconda article:

Enjoy:

The winners!

We have not one but two winners to announce and they’re both walking away with some amazing stuff. We decided to go out with a bang this year and what a bang it is. First up, the winner of the Megarom Festive Bundle with a whole bag full of goodies. There was some fierce competition for this one so we have one extremely lucky winner. And that is none other than:

Ryan Sheraton

And our winner for the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth Collector’s Edition is:

Marc Greener

Congratulations to Ryan and Marc, you guys won some awesome prizes! You could say that Santa did all this, but don’t let him get all the credit, we worked pretty hard too.

Thanks to Megarom for sponsoring these awesome massive prizes! You guys are the best.

What’s happening this holiday?

Instead of just doing the weekend, we’re doing the whole holiday! So, what will the beautiful bandits of SA gaming occupy themselves with?

Dawid: Unlike most other people my holiday to the coast happens in March to avoid the hordes. So, I’ll be spending lots of time eating junk food, drinking beer (or milkshakes), binging series, watching movies and playing lots of games at home. I really can’t think of anything better to do, other than completely switching my brain off. My wife and I have Black Ops 4 and Ghost Recon Wildlands to play, so I see lots of that happening. [Dawid basically has the dream itinerary for a holiday right here. He just needs a mojito with an umbrella and it’ll be perfect.]

Ash: I’ll be soaking up the sun in Cape Town for a week where I’ll spend some quality time with family and catch up with some friends. I head back to JHB on Boxing Day, where I plan to run through a South American jungle as Lara Croft in an attempt to save the world from Trinity. A bit of multiplayer this and Forza Horizon 4 is always a good thing. Perhaps I’ll go on a quest with Geralt again, because, The Witcher 3 is that good that you can play it over, and over, and over again. [*wipes away tears* The man knows the route to my heart. Geralt forever.]

Garth: I am already on holiday and have been for a while. So much so that I nearly forgot to give Marko, that 6 foot 5 piece of solidified handsome, my holiday plans. He’s totally not just writing something in my name right now. [Garth really is getting irresistible week after week.]

Charlie: I have family coming to visit from New Zealand. I haven’t seen my sis in a couple of years and I’m really looking forward to spending time with them! My brother-in-law and I will probably go for a piss up at some point. Other than that, I will be playing as much games as a possibly can. First on my Radar is the shorter games from my backlog I wish to tackle, which is Resident Evil 7, so hopefully I can at least scratch that one of the list. Not sure what will come after that, but Persona 5 should be considered, otherwise there might be consequences… Cheers everyone, have a good one and see you in the New Year! [You bet your ass there will be consequences. I’ve already set up monitoring equipment and if no Persona 5 is being played, I’m coming with the vengeance of a thousand suns.]

Tim: I’m working right through the holidays so won’t have as much time to game as I would’ve liked – however, I have an early January review game I’m very much excited to get into. I also still keep going back to Ratchet and Clank, Celeste, Spyro and Spider-Man whenever I have a few mins. Plus spending extra time with the family is always good. So it seems I will have more than have enough to keep me busy. So be safe everyone, enjoy your break and see you all next year! Oh, wait… also I need to start Gris. Eesh. Sorry, I better be going… [Tim has “work” and can’t play games when he wants? Pffft, what a loser am I right fellow poor people, I mean bros?]

Marko: My holiday will be one spent under pressure. My backlog is reaching critical levels and I need to make a plan to trim it as much as I can during this holiday. I won’t even try to list everything because it takes up an entire page of a spreadsheet. I did recently get Detroit: Become Human which I’m excited to jump into because it’s the only PS4 exclusive I missed this year and I’ve been a closet fan of good old David Cage. Otherwise, it will be a lot of drinking, a lot of gammon and a lot of sleeping. It’s going to be wonderful.

And so we say goodbye to 2018. It’s been one heck of a ride and 2019 is looking like it’s going to be even crazier. We’re expecting new console announcements, even bigger games and of course those surprises that happen each year. You all have been incredible this year and we can’t thank you enough for all the support. We’ve been constantly growing and it’s all thanks to you guys wanting to share your gaming passion with us. We’ll be back on the 7th of January doing what we do best and we hope you will be around to experience a new year of gaming with us. Happy holidays, be safe out there and go play some games why don’t you?

I am way too tall, played way too many games and I love to write about what we love about games. In the end, I'm just being #Thabolicious
