Epic Games are really pushing their store into everyone’s face and for the most part, they’re succeeding in that endeavour. At first, we groaned at the prospect of having yet another launcher and storefront on PC, but Epic is making some seriously ballsy moves in order to compete with the PC capitalism goliath, Steam. It’s all very grassroots and while the store has a fair selection, it definitely isn’t as extensive as the PC storefront standard we already have. However, they’re setting themselves apart in some creative ways such as getting some big name exclusives and also doing the best marketing you can possibly do: giving away free stuff.
Epic Games have already given away the magnificent Subnautica and Super Meat Boy, but the free game train doesn’t stop there. Starting this week, they’ll also be giving away What Remains of Edith Finch. The promotion will run from the 10th of January until the 24th and you’ll just need to download the Epic Games Launcher to get it. What Remains of Edith Finch is one of those often overlooked gaming marvels and one that I particularly enjoyed. It’s a short little “walking simulator” game with some amazingly creative mechanics and narrative moments that everyone should at least try.
You won’t have much of an excuse next week to not get it, so take this as a fair warning to pick up the game when it becomes available. Trust me, you owe it to yourself to give this game a go, it comes highly recommended from everywhere. Epic is doing some excellent things with these free game promotions as the games on offer are of super high quality. They may not be massive AAA experiences, but they’re good enough for you to consider downloading yet another launcher to clog up your taskbar.
