Scorpion returns to the cover for Mortal Kombat 11

Back in 1995 Ed Boon and his team learned a very valuable lesson – excluding a very popular character from the line-up is not a good idea. Mortal Kombat 3 is the one and only Mortal Kombat game (in the main series) that launched without Scorpion as a playable character. At the time it received so much backlash that several months thereafter we received Ultimate Mortal Kombat that had Scorpion and a few other characters joining the cast.

In recent times we’ve seen Scorpion on the cover of Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, the Mortal Kombat reboot and Mortal Kombat X. That’s not about to change, as he’ll ‘get over here’ on the Mortal Kombat 11 cover too. There are many of us who follow gaming news closely and know that Scorpion will be a playable character, thanks to the reveal trailer at the Game Awards, but there are many people who’ll only see the cover art and buy it as an impulse purchase based on that Scorpion cover. So, we think it makes good sense why Scorpion continues to be the mascot for the series.

Ed Boon confirmed this on his Twitter account.

He has also taken some time to remind everyone that more will be shared on 17 January and some lucky peeps in the US received this very cool invite (I’m beyond jealous):

Mortal Kombat 11 releases on 23 April for PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
