A look back at Nintendo’s success in this industry and history will tell you that Nintendo re-releases various versions of their hardware to the masses to gain more traction in the market before it declines. Other than the Wii, it’s something we’ve never seen with their consoles, but when it comes to portable systems we always receive some sort of revision and the Switch falls into that category. After much speculation the Nintendo President, Shuntaro Furukawa, denied those rumours.
Sankei News sat down with the Big N’s president to discuss the fortunes and future of the Japanese Corporate. When asked about their goal of reaching 20 million Switch sales by the fiscal year, this is what he had to say (thanks to Nintendo Everything for translating it):
It is an extremely ambitious, but worthwhile achievement. So, we will maintain this goal. Nintendo Switch is our primary sales objective, and we are not considering a successor or a price cut at this time.
We think the words ‘at this time’ means that we’ll eventually see it becoming a reality. However, for the time being it seems there is nothing on the horizon to replace the original launch model or cost thereof.
