Yesterday we learnt that there would be a new game reveal from Respawn Entertainment called Apex Legends. Not only did they showcase the first-person battle royale, but it is available to download right now.
The free-to-play game is set in the same universe as Titanfall, some 30 years after Titanfall 2. Here in the Outlands, a blood sport is all the rage.
The format of this battle royale is 60 players in 3-player squads, but each character is also a hero, with unique passives, tactical and ultimate abilities. These “legends” help you have an edge, while mixing up the normal battle royale system of loot drops being almost everything.
With a focus on squad-based gameplay, players will be able to ping each other, leaving markers for loot, enemies and points of interest. Squads also deploy as a group, meaning you have less chance of that one person jumping too early or too late. As the trailer suggests, it is also possible to revive your team if you manage to retrieve a Respawn Beacon from a fallen teammate, and get it to the marked respawn zone. They come back without gear, but it means they still have a chance in the game. This also means surviving an ambush, or not taking down an entire squad will lead to memorable and tense situations as there could be a comeback.
Apex Legends is available now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
