Apex Legends is already being classified as a success within EA. During a conference call on Tuesday CEO Andrew Wilson told investors a few numbers to showcase how well the game is doing.
“[I]n the first 24 hours, we’ve had over 2.5 million unique users, training fast toward 3 million unique users, and nearly 600,000 peak and current users in the middle of a Tuesday, so it’s very early, but the response to the game has been very, very strong.”
It will be interesting to see how long the player count stays at those numbers, but it appears that having a surprise launch worked out in the game’s favour. The idea of another battle royale featuring loot boxes doesn’t sound that appealing, but Apex Legends brings some fun, tight gameplay that makes things feel fresh enough. Now to see if it launching so close to Anthem’s launch hurts either game.
