Now there’s a name I haven’t heard since I recently rewatched all 10 seasons of Friends on Netflix a few months ago. While Walkman devices have definitely take a dive in popularity, what with the internet in the palm of our hands, Sony thinks it’s time for a throwback.
Perhaps they think the recent release and popularity of Kingdom Heats III will be able to revive Walkman as a household device, but I doubt anyone actually buying one will ever use it. Since it’s coming in at a very cool ¥ 24 880-28 880 (R3,000-3,500) without tax and shipping. That’s a lot of money for something you can do with your phone and a music app.
That said, the h.ear on 2 Mini Wireless Headphones and A Series Walkman do look rather nice. It continues the artistic style of the special
The Walkman itself comes as a 16GB device, with room for expansion up to 144GB via microSD, as well as comes pre-installed with the opening and ending songs for the game by Utada Hikaru. Both items can also be bought with a warranty, which is nice but it covers only physical damage. They won’t help you if you delete those songs off of your very expensive MP3 player, sorry.
If you’d like to see if you can get your hands on this pair, which is sold separately, head over to their Japanese store. They ship out between late March and early April. There’s also a God Eater 3 edition if that’s more what you’re into!
