Conan Exiles developer signs deal to make games in the Dune universe

Conan Exiles developer Funcom has signed a deal to make several games in Frank Herbert’s Dune universe.

Funcom announced a partnership with Legendary Studios, which owns the movie and television rights to Dune, will last six years, with Funcom planning to release “at least” three new titles for PC and consoles.

Details on the games haven’t been revealed, but one is an open-world multiplayer game, probably in a similar vein to Conan Exiles. It is possible that at least one of the games will tie in with Legendary’s new Dune movie, directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049), which is due to release in 2020. Funcom is currently working with Petroglyph for the strategy game Conan Unconquered and Petroglyph is made up of many ex-Westwood Studios veterans. I am not beyond hoping that people who made the wonderful Dune 2 get on board for a nice RTS. A man can dream, right?
