Four million copies of Resident Evil 2 Remake shipped

Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 2 Remake, which launched at the end of January, has shipped four million copies worldwide. The game shipped about three million copies in its first week, which is quite solid numbers to start off with, and adding another million over the course of three weeks after release is quite remarkable.

This also boosted the whole Resident Evil series sales numbers to over 90 million, making it one of the most successful Japanese IPs. Currently, the best selling game in the series is Resident Evil 5, which sits at about 12 million since 2009. It’s also Capcom’s most successful series by far, the closest challenger being Monster Hunter at around 50 million.

With the incredible success the Resident Evil 2 Remake has been enjoying it is clear that there’s a definite market for it. Capcom has returned the series to form with more focus on horror and immersion rather than action. There’s also rumours doing the rounds that more remakes are in the works, so we’re definitely not done with this series for some time.
