Trainers, prepare for the next big adventure in Pokémon Sword & Shield

In 1996, on the 27th of February, the first Pokémon video game was released, Pokémon Red. Over 20 years later and the Pokémon name is known throughout the world. Quite possibly even at the bottom of the ocean. The Pokémon franchise has grown into a world phenomenon. Spanning across television sets in the form of anime, to Pokémon Tazos that we used to find in our Simba chippies. Indeed, the Pokémon franchise is a special one. And what better way to celebrate this with the announcement of the eighth generation of Pokémon.

Nintendo yesterday, held a special Pokémon Direct for approximately seven minutes. During the Pokémon Direct we get to see not only new starter Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny and Sobble but also a gorgeous new region filled with wonder. The Galar region. An ‘expansive’ region with tons of new environments. Including, the countryside, cities, forests and snow-covered mountains.

Some of the finer and more intricate details I’d like to point out during the trailer is that wild encounters seem to be back. Unlike Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! Also, players will be heading out and challenging gyms once again to prove that they’re the very best. Sadly, I’m not a huge fan of the titles names Sword and Shield but I am happy to see the beautifully rendered 3D world that we’ll be exploring.

What are your thoughts on the Direct?
