Comic Con Africa is officially heading to Cape Town in 2020

It’s time to put the pitchforks down, Capetonians. Cape Town will host its very own Comic Con Cape Town event next year when the show officially launches in the Mother City 1–3 May 2020. No, the event in Johannesburg won’t disappear – it’ll now take place twice a year in different locations.

Managing Director, Carol Weaving, shed some light on what to expect:

With the unprecedented success of the 2018 Comic Con Africa it is the natural next step to bring this format to the city of Cape Town. While the style of this Comic Con will be slightly different to Comic Con Africa, we still expect the same level of entertainment focusing on our key pillars which include film, series, animation, cosplay, comic books and gaming. We are thrilled to be announcing the dates when we will be bringing the Comic Con magic to another South African city

They’ve also confirmed that this particular show will be more focused on films and series, due to Cape Town being the hub of film creation in our country. Come 2020 the Cape Town International Animation Festival will relocate to Comic Con Africa to make it quite the spectacle. That doesn’t mean there won’t be any gaming at all, but just don’t enter this show with the wrong idea when it launches next year.

Unfortunately this does clash with the annual Fan Con event, so we’re not sure how this’ll affect all that. As has been outlined, Comic Con Africa will host their 2019 event 21 – 24 September 2019, at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
