Left 4 Dead developer announces a spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood

There is an unsung hero from the last generation that came in the form of the Left 4 Dead series. Playing alongside three other buddies you would co-op your way through levels filled with the infected – zombies, boomers, chargers, spitters, tanks and the dreadful witch. Getting to an end of any level was a momentous occasion with friends, though you often left some behind. It was an online co-op classic and the developers are back for more.

Turtle Rock Studios is working on a brand new title that will be a spiritual successor to that game, Back 4 Blood, and Warner Bros. will be publishing it as per the official website. Here is what Chris Ashton, co-founder and design director at Turtle Rock Studios, had to say:

It’s hard to overstate what an awesome opportunity this is. We get to return to a genre that was born in our studio with over ten years of additional experience and zombie ideas racked up in our brains. We also have some of the best teammates in the business at WBIE who understand our development process and are equally committed to our player-first mentality. We love being able to announce, so we can start working with the community right away.

It’s expected to launch on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, though they do mention that there are possibilities for other platforms (which we assume is the Switch). No release date has been confirmed just yet, but they detail a bunch of other interesting bits for fans of their original Left 4 Dead series in an FAQ.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
