Despite its controversy, Mortal Kombat is one of those games that everyone gets in to. The gory catharsis this long-running series delivers is something many enjoy and has become a hallmark of gaming. It’s for this reason that the latest Mortal Kombat 11 TV spot sees real people become the characters, and nicely confirms Kitana.
It might seem kind of goofy to have these transitions between people and video game character but it fits the overall nature of Mortal Kombat. As serious as the game is and how realistic its depictions may be, in the end it’s all just flashy and over the top. It’s enjoyably absurd and that’s why people love it.
As for the Kitana reveal, some might be thinking this was already confirmed in the Old School New School trailer but fighting games love to do that. Often in story modes you’ll see detailed depictions of fan favourite character but they just don’t make it in to the playable roster. In a perfect world we’d get perfect parity between playable and present characters, but for now we’ll just have to enjoy them getting some time to shine.
Mortal Kombat 11 launches on the 23rd of April on PS4, Xbox One, PC and even the Switch.
