Twitch has allowed people to broadcast themselves live to thousands. It has revolutionised the way we view gaming media and some of the highest paying media stars call the platform home. The platform started off humble but quickly grew to levels never seen before and it hasn’t stopped since. Twitch does a lot behind the scenes to keep viewers invested and they also help out their streaming community where they can. But what about making games?
It’s not something you’d expect, a streaming platform making a game. However, in conjunction with rhythm game designer Harmonix, Twitch has created Twitch Sings. It’s a simple karaoke game that mimics the vocal performances you can find in a game such as Rock Band. Obviously, since this is Twitch who made it, there’s a slew of options for streamers to interact with their audience, duet options for when you want to sing with a fellow streamer and a good selection of songs to jam out to. Also, it’s completely free to anyone with a Twitch account.
It’s not a mindblowing first game by the streaming giant, but it’s a start. Audience integration is a new game design space that can only really be taken advantage of by Twitch and it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with for future releases. For now, go sing Britney Spears.
