Sony’s vision is for PS5 to make ‘loading screens a thing of the past’

After the surprise reveal from Mark Cerny it’s been tough to not talk about the upcoming PS5 and next generation Xbox. We’re nearing that exciting time in the games industry where we all live for any bit of information that is revealed on the next generation consoles and the spokesperson for Sony dropped more valuable information.

As Wired originally reported, there are plans for an SSD to be included in the PS5. If you’re not quite sure exactly what the term ‘SSD’ stands for, then we highly recommend you read our feature on it. It’s a huge evolution for how consoles will deal with your data storage in the future, something PC players are already enjoying to the max. Official PlayStation Magazine secured another comment from Sony’s spokeperson who provided a short but powerful statement:

An ultra-high-speed SSD is the key to our next generation. Our vision is to make loading screens a thing of the past, enabling creators to build new and unique gameplay experiences.

It looks like SSD is more important to them than we might think. Since CDs replaced cartridges we’ve been dealing with long load times. This continued when the digital era kicked in as HDDs were just too slow to deliver our games at top speed. The future looks bright, but let’s just hope that all these grand ideas don’t leave us with empty wallets.

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
