Hey, hey, hey, it’s still May. I almost said it was the last FGV for May, but no, the next one falls right on the 31st. May refuses to go into that good night. It’s been a very slow month for games and the ones that did release were a little, how should I say this, only slightly relevant? But I’ve been seeing you folks talk about playing your backlogs and I think everybody at this point has a backlog. Last week I got like five games just for clicking a couple of links. Didn’t even have to pay money, they’re just giving the stuff away.
Weekly wrap up!
You can get a pretty good idea for how bad news has been lately when you see that our most popular news post this week was about dead and skinned horses in Red Dead Redemption 2. But there were other exciting happenings. We saw the live footage of the loading times of the PS5 and also the PlayStation team was in the dark about the whole deal that happened with cloud gaming services. Also, World of Warcraft‘s classic edition has bugs built into the game to simulate the classic experience and it’s fantastic.
We also had a few reviews! I was falling in love with my caddy in Everybody’s Golf VR, Garth raged a bit at Rage 2 and Zain blasted into the past with Clu Clu Land. Charlie also wrote a fantastic piece on six things they didn’t get right in this console generation.
Comment of the week!
For the comment of the week, I just want to highlight this conversation between these two on the article about Sony patenting haptic feedback gloves for VR:
Children, the lot of ya.
I am aware that last week’s prize was all about anger and now we have a game about an adorably crafted green dinosaur. We’re all about the dichotomy over here. The cute and lovely winner of Yoshi’s Crafted World is none other than:
Congratulations to Yaasir for winning this week’s prize! We’ll be in contact with you soon to get your prize to you. Please don’t throw Yoshi off a cliff, he’s had enough.
Thanks to Nintendo South Africa for sponsoring this week’s prize!
What’s happening this weekend?
If you’re ever wondering what the SA Gamer crew does on weekends, don’t wonder anymore! Here’s a little breakdown of how we’ll be spending our weekends:
Dawid: Instead of playing Wildlands, Dawid is in the South African Wildlands currently. Yes, the wildlands of Joburg. I lost him somewhere and now I don’t know what he’s doing this weekend. Fighting for survival, I would guess.
Garth: A lot of my weekend will be spent building. It is time to start a brand new game of Satisfactory to try get a nice starting layout, and my fledgling colony in Surviving Mars needs a lot of work before it can terraform the Red Planet. Then once I am done building things up, I plan to spend my Sunday banging my head against I mean getting progress against Uu’nat, a seriously tight and currently annoying boss fight in World of Warcraft. [I’m only 20% kidding when I say that when the apocalypse comes I want Garth in my group. He’d design the dopest settlements and we’d just be swimming in resources. Also, I accidentally skipped him last week and after giving myself seventy lashes, I vow never to do that again.]
Charlie: This weekend got some interesting rugby going for it, so I’m really looking forward to Saturday afternoon for some BRB. On Sunday, they’re apparently doing maintenance on the local substation, so using anything that relies on power will be risky, so odds are good I’ll give Donkey Kong the love and attention that he deserves. [For a brief second I thought BRB stood for Bring Rugby Baby.]
Tim: This weekend we’re visiting friends we haven’t seen for a while and that’s always fun. I will also be playing some outdoor soccer and given that I haven’t done that in years and considering my general fitness levels – this will likely mean a fun but probably injury-filled weekend. On the gaming front, I’m still working my way through the Celeste B-Sides and so whatever video game time I have will likely be spent dying several thousand times. [If anyone injures you, just write their name down and give it to me. No reason, just want to talk.]
Marko: My week was a little nuts so I haven’t even thought of what I’m doing this weekend. I’ve been hopping around various short indie games and seeing if I dig them, but I think I should start on something substantial soon. I’ll screen the backlog and see if there’s something on the list. Otherwise, it’s going to be a fun weekend of doing exactly nothing. Just how I like it.
Yo, we’re almost at the halfway point of the year. How are those New Years Resolutions working out? Also, wasn’t it February like yesterday? Time always seems to get away from us. Hope you folks are enjoying the cold and enjoying your games. Don’t be afraid to talk to us in the comment section. Doesn’t even have to be about anything, you can just talk about your feelings for a bit too if you wish. We’ll cry together because I’m a big crier. Not that I cry a lot, I’m just big and I sometimes cry. Like when I see pizza.
Anyway. FGV returns next week! We’ll be goin’ real fast.
