Just Dance is probably the most consistent franchise out there outside of Call of Duty. The game is always, and I mean always, showcased on Ubisoft’s E3 stage with some kind of dance number. It’s tradition at this point, but the game itself is still going strong. Something that the internet is freaking out about is that the game will release on the Wii, which is obviously a dead console at this point.
However, the game has been on the Wii since the start and it just can’t give up on the platform. Something that a lot of people haven’t noticed with Just Dance 2020 is that it’s the first time that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are completely left out of the platform list. This tells us that the audience on those old platforms has more or less died off, but it seems the Wii crowd is still very much into it.
The game exists on a different plane than more traditional “hardcore” games. People buy these games for the updated playlists and since it doesn’t require anything but a smartphone, the game can be played on pretty much anything with a screen. This is further supported by the game’s inclusion on Google Stadia which will honestly be the perfect place for it since you can literally dance anywhere you have a browser open.
So yes, the Wii version in 2020 is pretty funny, but I think we just saw the official death of Xbox 360 and PS3 games since Just Dance was the last bastion for those platforms. Rest well, sweet princes and all hail the Wii.
