The first instalment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake sounds and looks absolutely impressive. Midgar, which was a massive city that we only experienced a tiny fraction of, is being bulked up to the point that the whole first game will take place just there. Talk about fleshing things out.
But fans of the original will remember that in the grand scheme of things, that journey in Midgar is only a small step along a rich road. So how many games will it take to remake Final Fantasy 7? Your guess is as good as any, because Square Enix doesn’t know either.
Kotaku asked producer Yoshinori Kitase about the scope of things and so far, the plan is either completely under wraps or you might want to settle in for the marathon.
“When we started out planning the plot for the first game, it hit us again… at that point we decided we were going to focus first game on Midgar and what happens in Midgar. Unfortunately we can’t say anything more about the future games, because we don’t know ourselves.”
At least most of us know the story for when we finish episode 1 and have to wait for more. Is everything going to get fleshed out like this, or will things taper off like an inverted pyramid: massive at the beginning, and almost nothing at the end.
