Build it and they will come. So when Ubisoft made a story creator so that players could test their creative muscles in Assassin’ Creed Odyssey, it was only a matter of time until somoene worked out how to buck the system and made quick, easy farming missions to rack up XP. Now Ubisoft if updating the terms of service to curtail this activity.
Why does it matter that you levelled quickly in a single-player only game? Ubisoft says “these exploits risk jeopardizing the overall quality, integrity, and purpose of story creator mode and results in less visibility for the creative, interesting and frankly fantastic community stories that have been published.”
The recommendation engine will be tuned to not show players XP farming quests, and the quests will be hidden if they are reported for “exploitation and cheating”.
It seems odd to push back against XP farming as something that risks “undermining the quality” of Odyssey, when the game features an in-game store that lets you buy XP boosers and other “time savers”. Oh.
