Nintendo announces new Game Trials service featuring Mario Tennis Aces

Yesterday, Nintendo announced the launch of its new Game Trials project. A kind of variation on what Xbox and PlayStation already offer their subscribers, Nintendo announced that Nintendo Switch Online subscribers would now be able to download a specific game for a limited time. If you enjoy your play during that period you are then able to buy the game at a cheaper price point from the eShop and continue your progress.

According to IGN, Japan will be getting Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker to try out sometime next week. However, for us here in SA (or Europe according to Nintendo) Mario Tennis Aces will be our first Game Trials title. A series of tweets posted from the official Nintendo of Europe account detailed the new scheme. In short, Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to download and play Mario Tennis Aces for free between the 7th and 13th of August. From the 7th to the 20th the game will also be on sale (33% off) and progress gained during the Game Trials period can be carried over if you buy the full game during that time.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Mario Tennis Aces due to the online issues we experience here in SA. However, having reviewed both Captain Toad and Aces, I can confirm that both are great games and would be welcome additions to your Switch library. So be sure to give Mario Tennis Aces a go next week and let me know when you’re online…
