The Galar Research Update – Pokémon Sword and Shield

The Pokémon Company yesterday released an update giving trainers more info of what’s to come in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Known as the Galar Research Update, trainers were introduced to new Galarian form Pokémon, new Pokémon and a new team and rivals.

Galarian Weezing – with a chimney that’s shaped like a top hat. I’ll be the first to admit that although I’m a huge Pokémon fan, my jaw dropped in shock at this. Galarian Weezing possesses a Poison/Fairy elemental typing. It is able to take in polluted air and poisonous gases, and then releases purified air. It is after all elementary my dear trainer.

Next up we see another addition to the to dex, a Galarian Zigzagoon. This Pokémon has a Dark/Normal typing with the ability Pickup or Gluttony. Of course with a first stage evolution, we’re sure to see a Galarian evolution and so enters a wild Galarian Linoone. However, things don’t stop there trainers as we see a second and new evolution, Obstagoon!

A form-changing Pokémon…Morpeko. A cute electric and dark type Pokémon. This Pokémon seems to change its type from electric to dark when it becomes hungry, also known as Hangry Mode. During this change, Morpeko becomes intensely aggressive, with the energy from its cheek sacs changing from electric to dark.

Moving on from the Pokémon. Galar region will introduce players to new rivals and a new team of baddies…umm wild fans, also known as Team Yell. This band of baddies fans will try everything to get in your way and want only one thing, to see Marnie, one of your rivals, becoming champion. Check out the full trailer below.

Pokémon Sword and Shield releases worldwide on the 15th of November. Admittedly I’m not really sure how I feel after this recent trailer. Undoubtedly, we’re sure to receive more news and trailers before release, so perhaps The Pokémon Company’s saving their trump cards for a later stage.
