Microsoft hopes The Outer Worlds becomes an enduring franchise

It appears that it isn’t just me (and anyone else that likes Obsidian’s work) that has high hopes for The Outer Worlds. During an interview with Game Informer, head of Xbox Studios Matt Booty said that Microsoft believes it could be “an enduring franchise”. Microsoft acquired Obsidian back in 2018.

Booty also spoke about Microsoft’s third-party studio acquisitions and that Obsidian has other projects underway already that haven’t been announced yet. When asked about plans for an Outer Worlds 2, and if it would be exclusive, Booty had the following to say:

“I think that’d be that kind of game. From what we’ve seen of the Outer Worlds, my hope is that that’s something we can build and that it really becomes an enduring franchise and it really starts to grow and we can help expand that.”

Booty said that exclusives depend on whether they would suit the franchise and it the game would benefit from being open to all platforms, or better supported with resources from Xbox.

He also mentioned several Xbox exclusives are in the pipeline, information that many have been waiting a long time to get more on.

The Outer Worlds releases on October 25, when we will get to see if it is something worth turning into an exclusive franchise.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
