The Saint’s Row franchise is one that’s very close to my heart since it was my first exposure to the HD generation on the Xbox 360. The franchise got progressively more insane as time went on and it culminated in 2013’s Saint’s Row IV which saw us take the role of the President of the United States who has to go up against aliens in a simulated world where you have superpowers. However, that was 2013 and the franchise has laid dormant ever since. Until today, that is.
THQ Nordic’s interim report released and they casually included an entry that said:
Volition is deep in development of a brand-new Saints Row game, the first full entry in this much loved series since Saints Row IV was released in 2013.
There was no further info on the game itself and we don’t even have a name just yet (probably going to be Saint’s Row V), but just the fact that the franchise is not dead is good news already. Agents of Mayhem tried to be the replacement for the franchise and unfortunately, it didn’t get very far, so this revival is something to get very excited about. Especially considering they have to top being POTUS flying over a city that’s been taken over by digital aliens.
THQ Nordic also had some other updates such as Dambuster Studios taking over the development of Dead Island 2, a game with an extremely rocky history since Yager, the original developers, decided to drop the game altogether. Additionally, Deep Silver has managed to acquire the TimeSplitters IP and has teamed up with series creator Steve Ellis to revive the series in some way. No game was announced just yet, but something is definitely brewing over there.
Lots of these announcements are for the far future, so nothing to get overly excited about. But I have a sneaking feeling that the next Saint’s Row will be on the forefront of the next generation and I simply can’t wait to get crazy again.
