I would imagine you’re here to bash Konami? They’ve made some unpopular decisions in this generation. First they had a fallout with Hideo Kojima, which in turn saw them cancelling the very impressive-looking Silent Hills, and then they tried to make a comeback with Metal Gear Survive. In this gen they’ve not launched too many games and fans of the legendary publisher has been wondering if we’ll ever really see them making a comeback. There is a new console (and PC) IP in development.
Unbeknown to many, the company is doing really well from a financial point of view. Every year sees them turning a good profit and that’s mostly thanks to one format – mobile. PES has been soaring on mobile platforms, but thankfully this does not spell doom for traditional platforms such as PC and console.
In a discussion with Gamesindustry.biz their Konami European president, Masami Saso, had this to say when discussing the future of the company:
Even with new platforms coming out, we believe high-end console games are the most important. We challenge for innovative ideas and technology within our console games and apply them to other devices, so we will continue to put effort into our console games. We also plan to increase our portfolio. In addition to the multi-device titles for PES and Yu-Gi-Oh, we plan to work on projects with other globally known IPs in the near future
Be sure to read the bigger picture here, it’s interesting to see that the Japanese Giant is as much in the game as its ever been, even if we would like to believe otherwise.
