Sims 4 fifth anniversary update brings configurable stairs and Muslim-inspired outfits

Last night’s Maxis Monthly livestream from The Sims 4 team revealed the  content coming for the game’s fifth anniversary update.  These will be added to the game in a free patch on 5 September, ahead of the Realm of Magic game pack releasing next week.

The livestream showed off several new furniture objects, including a picnic table, lounge chairs and normal chairs (because no Sims 4 update would be complete without a few chairs!), a new foundation, some railings and lights. All of these items come in a variety of patterns, including fun ones like a grilled cheese pattern, as well as some plain, boring patterns for more reserved Sims. There are also several new doors and windows to expand your architectural toolkit.

Also glimpsed in the live stream were several new outfits for Sims. Most notable are the new Muslim-inspired clothing items, ranging from some traditionally styled outfits for kids and adult Sims alike, to hijabs. This latter CAS item seems to be separate headwear like the hats and scarves already in the game, allowing it to be worn with any outfit.

Finally, The Sims team showed off brand new configurable staircases. Staircases in The Sims 4 have been a bit of a thorn in the side of avid builders since the game’s launch, but it looks like we’re finally getting a robust tool for creating staircases of just about any configuration imaginable. This should open up a host of new multistorey building options for Simmers. It may not be the often-requested spiral staircases, but this definitely seems like a step up from the current straight staircases.

There are also some Moschino-themed updates coming soon to the mobile Sims games, The Sims Mobile and The Sims FreePlay

The Sims team have another live stream scheduled for Friday at 8pm (SA time), where they’ll be previewing the Realm of Magic game pack.
