Sony has come under some pressure over the last few years regarding cross-platform play and reluctance to share anything on the proverbial playground. It has been notoriously reluctant to share the space with anyone else, but thanks to big games like Fortnite and PUBG, it slowly started opening the platform for sharing.
And now it seems the service is ready to be rolled out of Beta, where Sony will apparently open cross-platform play to any developer who wants to make use of the service.
Some of the bigger named franchises have jumped on the bandwagon already, such as Final Fantasy XIV for instance and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be getting cross play support between PS4, Xbox One and PC when it launches later this month, with should have quite a big impact on the cross-play space.
Exactly how many developers will be implementing the cross-play ability still remains to be seen, but the balls seems to be in their court now. I for one can’t wait to play games with people on other platforms, and I’m sure it might help Garth make more friends online.
