We often see gamers bashing FIFA or Call of Duty, as these games sell by the truckloads without having to do much more than mentioning the name. The disparity between those titles and most other games in terms of sales locally is quite the eye opener. That said, Call of Duty is a massive hit worldwide and its mobile release is proof of that.
Since Call of Duty: Mobile released a week ago it has gained 100 million downloads. If you need a comparison as to just how great this result has been for them then PUBG’s 26.3 million, Fortnite’s 22.5 million and Apex Legends’ 25 million downloads should be an indication just how well it did. Mario Kart Tour recently reached 90 million downloads in its first week and Pokémon GO reached 85.6 million when it launched in 2016.
Randy Nelson, head of mobile insights at Sensor Tower, said that “This is by far the largest mobile game launch in terms of the player base that’s been built in the first week”.
Call of Duty: Mobile is a free-to-play game that comes with the obvious in-app microtransactions, as expected.
