Sometimes you need to pass the torch or acknowledge that you are too busy to do everything yourself. In a talk with Famitsu magazine, Yoshinori Kitase, the producer for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, was asked about a potential Final Fantasy VIII Remake.
“If the youth that inherits the genes of Final Fantasy can step up and do it, then I’d like to see it made. For Final Fantasy VII Remake, the project started from my desire to make Final Fantasy VII with today’s technology while I’m still here at Square Enix. So I’d like to see it [Final Fantasy VIII Remake] done by the youth of Square Enix.”
It would very much be a passing of the torch as Kitase worked on the story, system designs, event scenes and more as the director of Final Fantasy VIII. Considering how large the Final Fantasy VIII Remake is going to be, with the city of Midgar becoming an entire game rather than a few hours of the start of your journey, Kitase has an idea of how long he will be working on FF7, and the idea of working on FF8 as well probably looks like a mountain.
