The Burning Question: What one game have you bought multiple times?

Yes, admit it. There is that one particular game that you’ve bought on several formats because you just love the game that much. Whether it’s a port, remake or remaster of a beloved title, we’ve all been there and today we’re discussing that guilty pleasure we have of buying the same game multiple times.

Being a collector means that I own several exact same games on different formats, but there is one game that I’ve bought more than any other title I own – Resident Evil 4. I’m a complete sucker for that particular game in the series and whenever a new version shows up on another format I jump head first into the purchase. I always convince myself I need it too.

What are you buying, stranger?

Obviously I bought the first game on the GameCube, but I needed the PS2 version purely to brag with my mates and show them how superior the GameCube version was (I mean, those trees don’t even have leaves on it – that’s how kak your PS2 power is LOLOLOL). Then the Wii version launched with motion controls, followed by the HD version on PS3 and Xbox 360 and later it got remastered and upscaled for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. I don’t own the PS4 version and bought it on Xbox One, though it’s something I plan to fix in the future. I did, however, buy the Switch version, because I need Resident Evil 4 on the go, you know? There are mobile versions too, but touch controls can GTFO.

Whenever Resident Evil 4 is announced for a new format my wife lets out a big sigh, as she knows there is no stopping this Las Plagas steam train that I’m on. She also hates the poor merchant in the game and refuses to play it because of him. Poor guy.  I’m just a megaton sucker for the game. Wonder if it’ll come to VR? Hmmm…

Final Fantasy VII and Super Mario Bros. 3 are the other two titles that get honourable mentions in the ‘I own it on many formats’ list.

So, what game(s) empties your wallet whenever it reappears?

Married to a gamer and she kicks my ass at most shooters. If the game is enjoyable I'll play it, no matter the format.
