It was almost funny that we even considered that Sony’s next console would be named anything other than the PS5, but hey, you never know. Microsoft gave us the Xbox One after all and as far as I know, it was definitely not the first Xbox. But Sony is looking well beyond just the PS5 if their recent spree of trademarking is to be believed.
In Japan, Sony has officially trademarked the names PS6, PS7, PS8, PS9 and PS10, as noted by Gamatsu. It’s really not that odd as companies do this all the time to make sure that they claim those names before these consoles become an actual reality and they might be stuck in trademark wars with various outside entities.
However, the concept is still funny that we might be seeing a PS10 in the future and Sony will be totally in the clear when it comes to trademarking if they do. If we go by current console cycles, we might see the PS10 in 2070 which means that I’ll be 80 years old. Hopefully I’m still pwning the kids by then inside my holoPSVR with real-time brain ray tracing.
