Disco Elysium kind of came out of nowhere, but wouldn’t you know it, it’s excellent. It’s heavily inspired by tabletop games and tells a tale of a drunk detective getting into all sorts of hijinks. The writing is brilliant and it harkens back to those classic hardcore RPGs that have been missing for quite a while.
The game is only available on PC at the present moment, but console peasants will be pleased to know that they’ll get their own shot at alcoholic greatness. Speaking to USgamer, Robert Kurvitz the writer and designer for the game said, “[W]e are going to port the game to consoles so you can play on your PlayStation and Xbox. So, you know, that’s my message to you guys for 2020. It plays really, really nicely on a controller because […] you don’t need to click around and give specific tactical commands, which the controller isn’t very good at.”
Sadly Switch owners are left in the dust for the moment, but it won’t surprise me at all if we see a Switch release down the line. It strikes me as a perfect fit for the handheld console. But yay, Xbox One and PS4 owners will get their opportunity to try the game at some point next year and it’s comforting to hear that the controller support is already coming along nicely.
