FGV winner is exploring a spooky mansion – and our weekly wrap up!

Hello my minions and welcome to your weekly dose of small talk and weekend worshipping. November is coming along just fine and we’ve had some big titles release already as well as some big events happening in the form of BlizzCon. We also had a big changeup over here at SA Gamer which I’ll get to soon, but don’t fret, we’re still here to give you your dose of juicy gaming-related goodness.

I was actually at the end of the article before I realized this, but well done South Africa for winning the World Cup! If you’re a regular reader you know my apathy for rugby already, but even I am happy that we won it from those dang Englishmen.

Weekly wrap up!

We’ve been a little sad this week with our very own Dawid leaving SA Gamer to finally fulfil his dream of becoming a world-renowned ballet dancer. It’s been tough to say goodbye and many tears have been shed (by me personally), but it was touching to see you, our wonderful community, showering him in love. We’ll still miss our resident old man and I’m now in the market for a new dad if anyone is interested.

Life still goes on though and we had a nice selection of reviews this week. I shot up some terrorists in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Charlie did some gardening in Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville and Tim struggled to get over the line in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. As for features, I regaled you all with a tale of how I have slowly become a PC gamer and Tim gave us a lovely feature listing five ways we celebrate our videogame nerdery.

We also had some fantastic coverage of BlizzCon 2019 and you can find all of it at our link here. Props to the team for doing such a wonderful job!

Comment of the week!

Our comment of the week comes from LazyDemoni (hey, it’s my Wipeout friend) on our Burning Question that asked if you dedicate all your time to a single game.

That also got me good, brother. I don’t really have anything quippy to say because the man has already done all the work, so I’ll simply say well played.

The winner!

We had a whole bunch of budding ghost busters enter the competition for Luigi’s Mansion 3 this week, but you all know the drill. There can only be one and that one is none other than:

Meyr Kruger

Congratulations to Meyr for winning this week’s prize! We’ll be in contact with you soon to get your prize to you. Have fun exploring the mansion and if you ever get lost, don’t be afraid of jumping out of one of the windows. That’s my usual escape strategy in general.

Thanks to Nintendo South Africa for sponsoring this week’s prize!

What’s happening this weekend?

If you’re ever wondering what the SA Gamer crew does on weekends, wonder no more! Here’s a little breakdown of how we’ll be spending our weekends:

Garth: My name is Arthur Morgan and there is so much I have to do this weekend. Dutch says he has a plan, but I’m not so sure no more. Maybe I’m just getting too old for this. Either that or I’m too distracted by all the people who keep begging me for help and to hunt things for them. I thought I was an outlaw. [I also thought I was an outlaw, but apparently “taxes” have to “paid” by “everyone”.]

Charlie: I have a garage that needs to be sorted, so I am totally looking forward to that, like totally! I need to get going early in the morning as well, since that place can turn into a serious oven. But seriously, what I am truly looking forward to is to squad up with mates for an extended VR session in Firewall Zero Hour this weekend. It’s going to be rad! [Heck yeah, brother! We’re super into Firewall now that we don’t suck and it’s always a blast to get the squad together and go shoot some dudes. We’ll be strapped in all Saturday and I’m hyped as hell.]

Tim: It’s still review season so I have a few review games to get stuck into again this weekend. Will also be visiting some friends and family in unsurprising Tim news. However, this weekend will also be used for coming up with what will certainly be an overly complicated ‘budget over time’ excel document detailing the complex manoeuvring that will be needed for me to purchase the upcoming Fallen Order game. Should be fun. [What I’ve found that works for budgets is to go sell blood and hair at a local black market. It really bumps up your bottom line and it doesn’t even cost anything!]

Marko: As Charlie said, we’re in for another explosive Firewall session tomorrow and it better be good because who the heck wakes up at 10 am on a Saturday? What did you say? Normal people do that? I don’t believe it. Other than that, I’m really itching to get back into The Outer Worlds and I’ll keep that as my sole objective this weekend. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get to play it.

And that’s that! It was a bit of a bittersweet week with the departure of Dawid, but we will rebuild and keep this place pumping out that sweet gamer juice. That doesn’t sound right, but let’s go with it. Also, I’m relieved to finally not hear about the rugby for a change and thankfully it was for the best reason possible. Be sure to stop by next week for another instalment of Free Games Vrydag!

I am way too tall, played way too many games and I love to write about what we love about games. In the end, I'm just being #Thabolicious
