A while ago Valve announced that they’re doing a “flagship” VR game, but they’ve been largely silent since then. Valve has been extremely quiet in general and we haven’t seen much life out of them this entire generation. I mean, why throw a wrench into your money machine? The VR game they’ve been talking about is yet to be revealed, but a leaked transcript might tell us what’s going on.
The alleged transcript is from a conversation between Geoff Keighley and Robin Walked, one of the developers on Team Fortress 2 and other games, as well as another unknown person. The conversation is in relation to a documentary that Keighley is making about Valve games. The transcript has Keighley say, “March 2020, ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ coming’ out.”
When asked if the game can be played without VR headsets, the third person responded with, “I mean we would love to be delivering a version of this that you could play with a mouse and a keyboard, but like as we said, it began as an exploration of VR.”
There’s no way to confirm any of this, so it lives on as a rumour for now. However, I can totally buy something like this and with Valve recently releasing their Index VR headset, it’s not a wild thing to think they might want a killer app for the hardware. We’ll most likely see what Valve has up its sleeve soon considering how close that alleged release date is.
