Sales numbers on Pokémon Sword and Shield are coming in, and globally, the new pocket monster wrangler has broken the 6 million units mark, making it the fastest-selling Switch game ever.
The Pokémon Company announced that this number includes both digital and physical sales and it doubles what Pokémon Let’s Go did in its first week.
The previous record was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which hit 5 million in the first week.
This isn’t the fastest-selling Pokémon game though, with Pokémon Sun and Moon selling 7.2 million in the first week.
Generally, we don’t cover first-week sales news, because the numbers are limited to the US or the UK markets. Having global numbers paints a much better picture and makes it easier to do later comparisons. It also means that millions upon millions of Pokéballs are being thrown around. Best to wear a hardhat when you go outside, so be careful out there.
