It’s not a secret that I’m a big Crash Bandicoot fan. Warped is one of my favourite games of all time and CTR started my love-affair with cartoon kart racers. And if you’re anything like me – the last few years have been pretty great. Not only did we get great new versions of the original three games with the Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy, but CTR got a slick remake with Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Vicarious Visions along with Toys For Bob (and Beenox for CTR) did a really great job of reviving the series and since the success of the remakes, rumours of them teaming up for a brand-new Crash game have been popping up all over the place. And it seems now we may finally have some confirmation…
First up, PlayStation released an “It’s Time to Play” commercial earlier this month. The minute-long video depicted a series of PlayStation characters and of course, Crash, Coco and Cortex made an appearance. However, some eagle-eyed viewers quickly noticed that much like Uka Uka, Coco seemed to be followed by a mask which no one had ever seen before. Check out the video below and see if you can spot it:
Then this week, social media feeds blew-up with two images. As explained in this Gamesradar article, the first was another PlayStation advert seen around the UK buses depicting a pretty fresh-looking Crash (as can be seen in the Tweet below posted by @ResetEraNT).
Then there was an image that appeared on Twitter showing an official-looking logo. The image shows an apparent Crash Bandicoot Worlds game with a 2020 release date. If you’re interested in checking it out – click here.
Since the various ‘leaks’ mentioned above – there’s been a lot of talk around the possible new game. And according to this WhatCulture Gaming video – the new game is being made by Vicarious Visions and Toys For Bob, apparently has been shown (behind closed doors) since October and will be announced sometime in December – perhaps at the Game Awards. Along with that, there are also rumours that the game will be a Mario 64/SuperMario Odyssey/3D World-type take on Crash Bandicoot, may even feature some Kart racing and will include new masks, baddies and more.
Now, that’s a whole lot of ‘ifs and maybes’ and for now this means this story is very much in the Rumour category. But as it gains more traction I would not be surprised to hear possible official announcements and clarification in the not-too-distant future.
