The Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise more or less died with the fifth instalment thanks to how absolutely garbage that game was. It was an embarrassing display of incompetence that it made this once legendary skating franchise into a joke and fans of skating games all cried together in harmony when we realised that skating games are now pretty much dead. However, let’s not count our hawks before they hatch, the franchise might be making a return soon.
Infamous leaker Sabi shared on Twitter that they had found evidence that the franchise might be returning:
So, there are two prevailing theories right now. The first seems the most plausible with Activision maybe remaking Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2 which would play into their recent trend of taking old franchises and remaking them for modern hardware such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro. The second theory is a brand new Tony Hawk Pro Skater game which seems much less likely but can totally be a reality. If that’s the case, I think they will be extremely careful about what they do with the game in order to prevent another massive disaster.
There have been some further potential leaks coming from The Nine Club podcast which had skateboarder Lizzie Armanto on and she briefly, and probably accidentally, mentioned that she was going to be in the next Tony Hawk game. The place where she said it was cut out of the podcast which sends all sorts of red flags up.
The Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise still carries a lot of weight in people’s heart and that nostalgia factor is immensely strong, so my money is very much on some classic remakes for the franchise. We’ll see what Activision has up its sleeve.
