Phoenix Point’s launch trailer pits you against the Pandora Virus

Tomorrow Julian Gollop’s spiritual successor to the original X-COM is coming out, and it looks like it will be a stressful, exciting affair.

Phoenix Point is a new take on humanity’s last stand. This time the invasion isn’t from aliens from across the galaxy but is a result of a mist that emerges from the antarctic permafrost as it melts away. Inside that mist is an organic compound that gets called the Pandora Virus, an aggressive agent that mutates any organic life it bumps into.

The damage is done and the things climbing out of the ocean are here to wipe out humanity, unless you can manage and command a small unit of soldiers and fight back against these horrors. The trailer shows military vehicles, dropships and some very nice looking weaponry. Just as well, because some of those enemies look like they will need a lot of firepower to take down.

Are you ready for monsters from the depths of the ocean mutated into human-killing machines? I’m glad it is turn-based because I reckon a few of those enemies would be difficult to fight when shaking.

If it has the letters RPG in it, I am there. Still battling with balancing trying to play every single game that grabs my interest, getting 100% in a JRPG, and devoting time to my second home in Azeroth.
