Marvel’s Spider-Man was a runaway success story for Sony and Insomniac Games and considering how the game ended, a sequel is for sure in the works right now. Insomniac Games was also bought by Sony which means they’re heavily invested in whatever the developer is creating, but we can easily assume that the sequel will be the first order of business for both of them.
Obviously we’ve had no word on when this sequel will be coming because we don’t even know if this game exists, but some industry insiders might have gotten the scoop already. Imran Khan, the former senior editor of Game Informer, went on the Kinda Funny Gamescast and near the end of it, he initially speculated that Spider-Man 2 might come in 2021. While anyone can guess that, Khan said, “I know too much about this, so I can’t speculate too much. I think a Spider-Man 2 will come sooner than we think.”
So while Khan’s prediction should be taken with a grain of salt, his reasoning is fairly solid. Marvel’s Spider-Man is a major franchise for Sony right now and as Khan said in the podcast, they are using it to demonstrate the power of the PS5 in terms of loading times and so forth. It won’t surprise me if the release of the sequel is as close as he says, but don’t take it as gospel.
